GUIDANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS  

 

AS A MORE EFFECTIVE FORM OF COMMUNICATION, I WILL SEND INFORMATION DIRECTLY TO JUNIORS AND SENIORS THROUGH ESTABLISHED EMAIL GROUPS. This will ensure that all juniors and seniors are receiving information in a very timely manner.  If your student has not joined my email group, please email me and I will add him/her to the group.  My email is ridleys@mckenzieschools.org.

ACT INFORMATION

 

http://www.act.org/qotd/ This site provides you an ACT problem of the day.

https://www.march2success.com/index.cfm-  This site has seven full-length ACT exams. Simply create a log-in and password and have full access to ACT assistance.  There are other programs associated with this site that may also help you with the development of basic math skills.

http://www.eKnowledge.com/NFHS This site offers you the opportunity to receive FREE ACT & SAT Test Preparation Programs. 

FYI—Sylvia Jones and Nancy Medling are one of the groups that do a Saturday ACT Prep course.  Unless it has changed, the cost is $75 the first time and $5 for any additional time after that if a student wants to re-take the course.  It is typically the Saturday before the test.  Sylvia’s number is 731-377-4052.  Nancy’s number is 731-334-0699.

TEL now has free practice tests, tutorials, and e-books to help you prepare for the ACT, SAT and hundreds of other exams, in Learning Express Library.  You will need to create an account for your personal use with the username (or email) and password of your  choice.  The link to the LEL is on the library webpage or you may ask Mrs. Batchelor for assistance.

 

 

TN PROMISE

The deadline to apply for TN Promise is Nov. 1, 2016.  The website is www.tnpromise.gov.  I have been helping students in Mrs. Carr's Business Econ classes sign up.  I will be glad to help any senior sign up for TN Promise.  I am here by 7:30 a.m. each morning. The first MANDATORY MEETING is Oct. 25, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at the Carroll County Civic Center.  The second MANDATORY MEETING is March 21, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Carroll County Civic Center. The FAFSA deadline for TN Promise is Jan 17. 2016.

 

FAFSA

The FAFSA application becomes available on Oct. 1, 2016.  You will use your 2015 Taxt Return to complete the FAFSA. This is required for every student who plans to attend a post secondary school (4-yr college, 2-yr college, TCAT, Community College) after high school.  This is also your application for the lottery money.

 

COLLEGE FAIRS

The Carroll County College Fair has partnered with Bethel Univesity to hold our College Fair on Oct. 4, 2016. The time is from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. You and your parents are invited to attend.  At 6 p.m. Ms. Abby Nichols will be conducting a Financial Aid workshop.  Also, the Financial Aid department from Bethel will be set up and will be glad to help you complete the FAFSA.

The UTM College Fair is Sept. 16, 2016.  The cost of this College Fair is $10.  We will be leaving MHS at approximately 9 a.m. and returning at approximately 2 p. m.  The cost covers the meal in the UTM cafeteria, the bus drivers and mileage.  This is not a mandatory trip.  Please have your money and permissions form returned to Mrs. Ridley by Sept. 9, 2016.

 

APPLYING FOR COLLEGE

Most all college applications are online.  You should be narrowing down your list of college choices.  You can complete the applications now.  Please let me know when you complete an application and then I will mail your high school transcript.  No college will give you an admissions decision without your transcript.

 

COLLEGE DAY

Seniors are allowed to take one College Day.  Therefore, I would suggest you take advantage of every school holiday to visit colleges.  No College Day will be allowed after April 15, 2017.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION    byterian Church's Science Scholars Awards application is nw available.  You must have an ACT of 25, intend to pursue a major in science or engineering and have proof of financial need, application.
